Dumb Spammers

December 22nd, 2009 LwEEs No comments

A while ago, I tried to build a community using BuddyPress. That didn’t work, I had some personal issues with BuddyPress plus I really think that a community, at least the one I want, can be easily managed by adding just a forum. I left BuddyPress (for now) re-design my blog, using open source and share ware software and here I am.

One of the things that really got me mad when I was dealing with my BuddyPress experience was the “Spam.” BuddyPress spam is really bad and there is no simple way to solve that problem. I tried many plugins and many hardening techniques for WordPress and nothing worked the way I want it to work. I opted for closing down registration and that didn’t take me where I wanted, so all this to tell you that the spammers that created those account are still trying to “ping” to them. Read more…

iPhone 3G, 18 months later.

December 19th, 2009 LwEEs No comments

I got my iPhone 3G the day it launched in 2008, it replaced my original iPhone (1st gen or 2G, whichever way you may want to call it.) As many of us, I haven’t been able to upgrade to the new iPhone 3GS because of the contract with the carrier and at this point I’m not upgrading because it is most probable that this next summer we have the next generation device.

While I wish I had purchase the 3GS, I’m not too concern about it because the only thing I’m really missing it the speed. Some games are sluggish to play, like TapTap Revenge, and other apps like maps could use a bit of speed too. For the most part it’s been a great phone and now its showing its age, I’m having two issues right now, one is the battery and two is the device itself.

The case started to crack, I don’t have a cover on it but I’m very careful with my phone. I noticed a week ago that my case started cracking right around where the connector is, this worries me because now is more prone to damage by water or humidity. I was thinking on getting a cover for it but what if the new cover doesn’t fit my next-gen iPhone. I know I can sell it or pass it down to my daughter with the cover I get but it seems like a bad investment specially now that the phone is on its way out. Read more…

How to Leave Comments on Blogs or Websites

December 13th, 2009 LwEEs No comments

Ever since blogs stared to get popular people learned about leaving comments on other peoples blog. To my surprise there is a small minority of people that really don’t know how to properly leave comments on blogs and here is my little tutorial.

Most blogs and/or websites have some sort of commenting option for the readers to leave comments on articles. A very few websites decide not to allow commenting on their articles but for those that do they share a very similar looking web form. A web form for commenting (see picture below) has a set of standard input lines starting with your name, email, web address (your web address), and space for your comment. Read more…

Leaving BuddyPress for Now

December 11th, 2009 LwEEs No comments

After monkeying around with BuddyPress for awhile I decided to step down and bring LwEEs.net back to it’s root, I’m new running WordPress with bbPress integration for forums. I’m not too happy with my current theme but I will be working hard to create one that fit my purpose here at LwEEs.net.

Leaving BuddyPress was not an easy decision, I’m in love with the platform and the idea. I like the effort the community is putting on it but for some reason I believe that BuddyPress is to WordPress what the AppleTV is for Steve, “just a hobby”. As for the selected group of people that works hard on giving a great BuddyPress experience, thanks.

In the future I plan to bring back my BuddyPress experience only that on some other domain name, so stay tuned for that. In the meantime LwEEs.net will be a compliment blog to LwEEs.com which will be more commercial, LwEEs.net will focus on social networking and blogging what ever comes to my mind. Thanks for following me and feel free to suggest or submit your opinion about anything.
